More homes will be built this year than in the entire State of California.The California Policy Center website reports between January of 2011 and March of 2014 there were more building permits issued for single family homes in Houston than in all of California.
These numbers make CA's urban planners happy; they'd rather no more single family homes are built in the state. Planners love high density living, as in Europe. Not my idea of ideal.
