Travel Blogging IX

Jasper, Alberta: Today we found a free WiFi source at the Parks Canada Info Center, and sent off stuff we'd already written. We also got caught up on Stateside news, including politics.

It looks like Trump is getting past his Khan-flict, despite the MSM's best efforts to torpedo him. Obama giving pallet-loads of cash to Iran sure doesn't look good, I've seem at least some opinion it was in fact against the law to do so.

It is being alleged that Hillary discussing some Iranian physicist in her emails got the poor SOB hung as a spy. Add his death to the four in Benghazi, she has a lot to answer for.

For what its worth, Canada is a nice country. If the political outcome in November is one with which you cannot live, it could be a place to emigrate. You should know, however, that they've been admitting tens of thousands of third world immigrants who are nearly everywhere you look, and many of these are Muslim.

Their new PM was recently photographed without a shirt. He bids fair to become a northern Obama, more into vacations than governing. That after a long spell of conservative government that did a good job.

The Canadian national government is parliamentary, which means the PM is the leader of the majority in parliament, or leader of a coalition that has formed among two of the three national parties in the event of no one party holding a majority in parliament. Normally he can get his policies enacted into law unless constrained by a uncooperative coalition partner.

Oddly, at the province level, parties may have different names or be quite independent of national parties. This is unlike the U.S. where the two major parties have activities at state and national levels, and sometimes at the local level.

Weather reports here give temps in Celsius, the horseback conversion is double their number and add 30. So their 20 is roughly our 70, it isn't exact but gets you close. As we've noted, their speed limits and distances on road signs are in kilometers, multiply their number by 0.6 to get miles. Their butchers sell meat by the gram, 500 grams is close to a pound. They're using liters for fuel, and stuff like liquor and milk, we're already semi-familiar with the two liter bottle of soda.
