Knife Crime in the U.K.

The Brits have very tight controls on the possession and sale of handguns and their ammunition, essentially only hardened criminals doing felonious stuff have them. Most of their police don't carry a sidearm on routine patrol.

So ... they have little violent crime, right? Wrong, they have knife crime. See a long article about knife crime in The Guardian (U.K.). If you read between the lines, it's clear the same poor people doing gun crime in our inner cities do knife crime in theirs.

Nobody has figured out how to ban knives, found in abundance in every kitchen in their land and ours. It does clearly make the point that the will to violence is relatively widespread and difficult to contain.

Banning guns won't do the trick. The last terrorist attack in London used a rental car and a knife - try banning those, or banning baseball bats and golf clubs. David killed Goliath with a little leather and a stone.

I don't know what the answer is, if one even exists. I know several things it is not.
