Why Not Impeachment?

Sarah Palin, among others outraged by the President's disregard for law enforcement, has called for his impeachment. I daresay Obama has failed enough in his duties to warrant that draconian step.

However, with a Senate controlled by Democrats, why should the House bother? There is no possible way Obama would be removed from office, Harry Reid will see to that.

Beginning in January of 2015 we may have a GOP majority in the Senate. However, to convict and remove a President requires two-thirds of the Senate to vote "Aye."

It is highly unlikely the GOP will have 67 votes in the Senate, and the chances of a Democrat voting to unseat a Democrat president are essentially zero. Therefore, President Obama won't be removed from office via impeachment.

If you've wondered why Speaker John Boehner and Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell have shown little interest in impeachment, that's why. They are realists.

After 2015, if any substantial number of Democrat Senators signaled a willingness to vote to oust Obama, expect the GOP leadership to change their tune. But only in that unlikely circumstance.
