Michael Barone, writing in The Washington Examiner, about our national political process:

The weakest part of our political system, by a considerable margin, is the presidential nominating process.

This systemic weakness is one of the main reasons we keep getting presidents (e.g., the last three) who need "training wheels." It is an excellent article.
