It's a Parasite Load

Writing about the overripe higher education bubble - its causes and symptoms - Instapundit Glenn Reynolds opines that administrative overhead costs are eating into instructional budgets. He observes:

As organisms’ parasite load grows too high, they become less competitive and risk extinction.

Extinction is what Reynolds has predicted for much of higher ed., which is where he lives.
