White Identity Group Politics

Reihan Salam writes for Slate on the extent to which whites becoming a minority by 2044 will result in their also becoming a nationalistic identity politics group. He believes this is unlikely, or perhaps "hopes" better describes his attitude.

It's an interesting article, worth your time to read. He is certainly correct that America has been the greatest resocializing force this planet has seen since the Roman Empire ended.

For two centuries the U.S. melting pot worked its magic. Then it became anathema to the liberal elite, and that negative view trickled down to the race hustlers, whose narrow, divisive interests it served admirably.

Oddly, while I don't necessarily agree with Salam's conclusions, I applaud his Rx which is to slow down immigration. That pause can give existing minority groups time and space to become acculturated, to buy into the culture of the shrinking white majority.

Salam doesn't deal with the issue of Muslim minorities which, worldwide, have proven difficult or impossible to assimilate. As noted elsewhere, there should be a moritorium on Muslim immigration.
