The other DrC and I have been watching Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries from Netflix, it is set in late 1920s Australia, before the worldwide depression happened. It was produced locally for Australian TV and is well-done.
The protagonist played by Essie Davis is a wealthy single flapper who becomes a consulting detective, because she finds it fascinating. The hour-long episodes are both stylish and fun. The music is period jazz (of course) and the Oz accents are not overwhelming.
My reaction to the programs - they have the appearance of BBC mysteries set in the late 1920s, but filmed in Oz which actually resembles California.
The DrsC enjoy Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries very much, and several people we've mentioned the series to like them as well. You might give them a try, if you have Netflix.
