Whom to Sacrifice

Instapundit Glenn Reynolds writes a weekly column for USA Today. Today his topic is how large, complex systems (for example, empires) fail and die. I like the bitter realism of his conclusion:

As you vote, remember that the more resources you put under the control of the political class, the more likely it is that things will eventually go bad. Politicians seldom look past the next election, and they’re willing to sacrifice pretty much anything to hang on. And that “pretty much anything” includes you. 

I suggest you are the first thing they'll be willing to sacrifice and you know that already, hence the widespread support for Trump.
