Looking Back at 2024

The Pew analysis of the 2024 election returns has been published. Pew looked at race, gender, age, education, urban/suburban/rural, party affiliation, and combinations of these.

Only three subgroups shifted more toward Democrats: Democrats, White women, and Women over 65. Literally every other combination you can think of shifted toward Republicans! No wonder Democrats can't figure out what to do next. Here is a quote I liked.

Overall, the averages making a pretty convincing case that the 2024 election saw meaningful levels of racial depolarization. While this was not good for the Democrats, who have long been the preferred party of many racial minorities, it is probably good for the country over the long term if Americans see themselves—and, by extension, their politics—less through the lens of their skin color.

This one isn't exactly a surprise, but it is really amazing nonetheless.

Trump made substantial gains with the lowest income earners. Worse for Democrats, who have struggled to retain their identity as the party of workers in recent years, is that the lone income bracket Harris captured was the highest income earners. [emphasis added]
