Denmark Denied

Democrat presidential aspirant Bernie Sanders touts the quality of life in Denmark, holds it up as a model of what he wants for the U.S. I prefer what Ana Swanson writes about that windswept little peninsula, for The Washington Post.
Few actually actively seek to move to Scandinavia, for obvious reasons: the weather is appalling, the taxes are the highest in the world, the cost of living is similarly ridiculous, the languages are impenetrable, the food is (still) awful for the most part and, increasingly, these countries are making it very clear they would prefer foreigners to stay away.
To which I'd add that Scandinavian design sensibility is austere to the point of brutality. I got very tired of their modern architecture in less than a week, after which I was dying to see some decorative flourishes on a building less than 100 years old.

The local food is appallingly bad. If you lived there you'd patronize TGIFriday's like we did in Bergen and Oslo. Great burgers by the way, proving it's possible to do good food in Scandinavia, just difficult.
