David Brooks, successor to William Safire as the
New York Times' conservative pundit, has a quite good
column on the Obama phenomenon. Brooks tracks Obama's descent from deified uberpolitician to grubby hack, a descent helped along by the Clinton machine. Brooks' conclusion echos what we've been saying here at COTTonLINE for some weeks:
Republicans have long assumed they would lose because of the economy and the sad state of their party. Now, Democrats are deeply worried their nominee will lose in November.
