Seeking Impeachment: A Hail Mary

Writing for The Washington Post, columnist Charles Krauthammer writes that, in spite of denying he is able to change the laws unilaterally, President Obama apparently is considering in some manner legalizing the status of millions of illegal immigrants. Furthermore, this act is designed to trigger impeachment talk, and perhaps action, which it is believed would kickstart sluggish Obama voters to turn out for the 2014 midterm election.

COTTonLINE believes the solution to this dilemma is simple. If the President acts as aides have suggested he might, House Republicans should stay cool and announce that they will consider the issue after the November election, not before. If they make no gaudy threats or outrageous claims, however justified, it will be difficult to use their behavior to energize Democrat voters. Once the election is safely "in the can," a consideration of what response to make has little downside.
