National Journal's Josh Kraushaar writes that Trump should strongly consider selecting Newt Gingrich as his VP running mate. His argument, greatly simplified: Mike Pence is boring, Newt Gingrich isn't.
Newt has more of the "flake" quotient than Pence but, of all the Republican luminaries I can think of, Newt's the one I'd most rather hear as an after dinner speaker. The man is just plain interesting. He is bright as heck, knows history and uses it to understand today.
Furthermore, as Kraushaar notes, Gingrich would do a good job of explaining away Trump's inevitable gaffes, perhaps putting them in context. My verdict: Trump could do much worse than Gingrich, we'll know on Friday.
