We humans combine intelligence, dexterity, agility, mobility, communication, teamwork and adaptability in a predator species. I expect to find no less than those characteristics in any star-faring species we eventually encounter. It is no fluke we are the dominant species on the dry portions of this globe, and a deadly predator on the watery portions.
Our nations do things in wartime that - once the war is truly won - the squeamish find distasteful. 'Tis the nature of our intra-species squabbles on this, our home planet. History books are full of examples of total war.
At about this time every year the bleeding hearts who rue our use of two nuclear weapons against Japan bring up the anniversary. They performatively rend their clothing and scatter ashes on their heads. I am very tired of their annual online 'street theater.'
Had Japan lost to the Roman Empire, the result would have been enslavement of all healthy females and children, death of all adult males plus any others with no market value (elderly, handicapped, infants, etc.). Genghis Khan would have ordered genocide. Stalin perhaps would have reached for mass starvation a la the holodomor. We provided assistance, and self-government leading to independence.
The millions of Japanese who survived World War II have gone on to become one of this planet's true success stories. The Japanese are today a US ally when they truly have other choices, if perhaps no better ones.
Pearl Harbor = FA; Hiroshima, Nagasaki = FO. I rest my case.
