How Fare Rural Hospitals?

I don't know much about Bigfoot, he's not part of local lore. The supposedly sorry plight of rural hospitals sure hasn't reached our part of western Wyoming.

Summers I live some 26 miles from a rural hospital. I recently spent just over 24 hours as a patient at that hospital, getting a touch of pneumonia under control with IV antibiotics and oxygen.

I'm here to tell you any hint of the death our rural hospital is ridiculous. Honestly I couldn't have gotten better or more friendly care. Everything is up to date, clean, and I had a private room (without asking).

Instead of the usual dreary fare, I had a full-color restaurant-style menu from which I ordered what I liked. They've done away with "visiting hours," the other DrC could come and go as she pleased. My visitor chair was a recliner she used, and when she got cold they brought her a warmed blanket.

Sure, I have to go 50-100 miles to see the more arcane specialists, that's part of the cost of our choosing to live in a rural area. What we gain in lifestyle far outstrips what we miss in convenience.

When Democrats tell you rural hospitals are in more trouble than usual, don't take their word for it. Some few probably are, I promise you many clearly are not. Hat tip to RealClearPolitics for the image.
