Here We Go Again

Roughly 80 years ago, as a former Army officer my father was hired by the Veterans Administration to serve on hearing panels examining claims of World War I-caused disability. The Great Depression was underway and thousands of vets who couldn't find work (after working through the booming 1920s) were claiming suddenly-discovered service-connected disability.

Now we face another economic mess, the Great Recession. It is no surprise that long-term unemployment is causing the phenomenon to happen all over again. Millions of people are claiming disability, some of them legitimately. See this CNN Money article for details.
