Unemployed Unrepresented

COTTonLINE normally doesn't provide links to articles by Robert Reich, who is a former Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration. He was one of the more left wing members of the Clinton cabinet.

This Los Angeles Times article by little Bobby Reich is an exception. He says some things about unemployment that aren't often said. For example, we hear that men got hit harder than women in this recession. Reich says it was true, but women are getting hit in the later parts of the recession during which some men are being rehired. He adds that unmarried mothers are particularly hard hit by unemployment, as are older workers.

Reich takes some demographic slices through the unemployment data that are unusual and interesting. His basic point is that these people are underrepresented in the halls of power in Washington. Leaving this plea for the unfortunate aside, his analysis is interesting.
