On several occasions I've compared The Washington Post's Dan Balz to the legendary David Broder, who was known as "the dean of the Washington press corps."
RealClearPolitics' Carl Cannon takes a drive (literally) with Dan Balz and interviews him on video about allegations Balz is Broder's successor, the new dean of the press corps. Pretty clearly Balz is flattered but feels he needs to disclaim the honor, for modesty sake if no other.
Balz is right to demur; that sort of title isn't something one admits to. It needs to come from others.
