I am shocked. The nominal "conservative" of the PBS pundit pair Shields and Brooks - David Brooks - actually said on The News Hour tonight that the only way to get the flood of Hispanic kids from Central America to stop coming is to fly a bunch of them home and make sure people there learn the kids don't get to stay in the U.S.
Later on Washington Week I learn doing this may require changing a federal law originally passed to prevent the trafficking in children for sexual purposes. That law apparently does not permit the repatriation of illegal immigrant children without quite elaborate legal maneuvering. Intended to protect children from sexual predators, it seemingly interferes with deporting children here illegally, when no trafficking is involved.
Passing such a change will require an overwhelming wave of public pressure on Congress and the President. Let's get busy and generate that pressure.
