Blow Whistle, Sink Career

The nomination of Admiral Ronny Jackson to be Veterans Affairs Secretary led to controversy, and Jackson subsequently withdrew his name. It was alleged that the Army physician assigned to the Vice President, one Dr. Jennifer Peña, was the source of several anti-Jackson allegations.

She has now resigned. The moral of the story is this: If you contemplate being a whistleblower, be prepared to fall on your sword. Assume your career in your present organization will be over, full stop. I hope Peña understood this.

If Peña stays in the Army she'll probably be assigned to a field hospital in Afghanistan or a post clinic in Alaska. If she doesn't quite have 20 years in, she might go along to vest her retirement pay.
