New Base Unavailable

As she so often does, The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan writes something profound about the disconnect between the GOP elite and the party's base.
Party leaders and thinkers should take note: It’s easier for a base to hire or develop a flashy new establishment than it is for an establishment to find itself a new base.
I daresay the GOP establishment has finally figured this out (or will do so in a couple of weeks). It is entirely too late, that train has already left the station.

As we've noted before, it is terrifying when you only think you're leading a parade. Looking over your shoulder, you discover your secretly despised followers are headed off in another direction, following another pied piper. Imagine the irrelevancy, the chagrin!
