Jim Geraghty of National Review had a good idea. His insight was that the media folks who cover politics and the pols who practice it share a culture, which is not shared with the typical American conservative voter. Hence, candidate "flaws" the media perceives may even be virtues in the minds of voters.
Unfortunately, Geraghty felt the need to draw out this self-evident notion to a full length column. His reporting on the NRA convention in Nashville was interesting, and supported his thesis, but didn't really add depth to the original idea.
Face it, the media also don't understand what made American Sniper the season's most popular film. They didn't like Clint's Dirty Harry movies, either.
