Writing for Politico, Bill Scher argues that Hillary Clinton and Jeb Bush will be the two major party nominees in November of 2016. He believes all the political wrangling between now and the conventions can safely be ignored.
I agree it is hard to imagine someone other than Hillary getting the Democrat's nomination. Scher believes Jeb will get the nod as the GOP establishment's candidate because the too-big Republican field of contenders has no clear front-runner. I am much less certain he gets this one right.
As it stands, virtually the only enthusiastic Bush supporters are House Bush retainers, those who owe fealty to the Bush dynasty. To the GOP rank-and-file, Jeb is somewhere between Mr. Ho-Hum and anathema.
Would Jeb be a better president than Hillary? Maybe, but so would at least half of the candidates. No great edge there.
We really need to get beyond dynastic politics in this country. A Hillary vs. Jeb ticket would be a clear indication of political dysfunction. I am relatively certain COTTonLINE would not endorse either of them.
