It is being reported attorney Rudy Giuliani has said Donald Trump reimbursed attorney Michael Cohen for the $130,000 Cohen paid for Stormy Daniels’ imperfect silence. And this is being contrasted with Trump’s statement he didn’t know about the payment. I speculate the following.
Perhaps the apparent contradiction has to do with timing. Perhaps Trump didn’t know about the payment when it happened but, having learned of it afterwards, understood he should repay Cohen for the outlay (no pun intended) on his behalf. That is what a responsible wealthy person would do for a loyal retainer who took initiative to preserve his client’s reputation/electability.
