We have two announcements of non-candidacy today. It is also Super Tuesday, if you are keeping track.
The first is former First Lady Michelle Obama whose Director of Communications Crystal Carson, issued the following disclaimer, according to NBC News.
As former First Lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president. Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’ re-election campaign.
Ms Obama has also been quoted as stating the following in a Netflix special.
Politics is hard. And the people who get into it … you’ve got to want it. It’s got to be in your soul, because it is so important. It is not in my soul.
The second announcement is from Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ). AP News reports she made the following statement.
I love Arizona and I am so proud of what we’ve delivered. Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year.
Sinema left the Democrat Party in December of 2022 and became an Independent. Both major parties had identified candidates to run against her in November, and even with the advantages of incumbency it appeared she would lose a three-way race.
