Blatant Corruption ... Popular in Argentina

As regular readers know, one of the nations COTTonLINE tracks is Argentina - a fantastically endowed country with wretched politics. PanAmPost runs an article reporting a pre-election upsurge in Argentine governmental vote-buying.

In the lead-up to a national election four months from now, the Kirchner government is hiring right and left ... mostly left. It is a great way to buy votes in a country where a government job is viewed by many as a quasi-birthright.

People who owe their jobs to the Cristina Fernandez Kirchner government now in power will very likely vote for her successor in order to keep those sinecures. These are poisonous but popular policies which began under the Perons, Juan and Evita.

Alas, poor Argentina, cry for her future....
