Ruminations on Baltimore

I understand why the prosecutor in Baltimore acted quickly to bring indictments. That her motives had little to do with the officers' actual guilt, if it in fact exists, is beside the point. Calming the riots is motive enough.

Presumably the police union will ensure the six get a strong, vigorous defense, including a change of venue. Whether the rioters will forebear if most or all are acquitted is a question for another day.

Because of the circumstances of Baltimore being a black-dominated, black-run city with a police force that is half black, an underlying dynamic is becoming clear that was conflated with racism in Ferguson, MO. The black underclass and the police are at war; any police, all police, all the time, regardless.

Their drug-sodden, chaotic lifestyle, punctuated by frequent gunfire, casual, brutal sex and sudden death - as celebrated in rap lyrics - is incompatible with society's laws. These we have established the police to enforce. Hence, an at-home example of a frozen conflict that periodically flares up into street warfare.

N.B., Rap is the Norteamericano version of the Latin narco corridas, essentially glamorizations of crime, machismo, and death, seasoned with misogyny. Think "Mad Max" minus the imaginative, crudely customized assault vehicles.
