Five Eyes

My current favorite writer on foreign affairs - George Friedman - does a column on the Five Eyes coalition of intelligence organization of the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. It has existed at least informally since the Second World War and is an intentionally loosely coupled military alliance of nations with common British cultural roots.

What puzzles me is that he can observe the common cultures without mentioning the “Anglosphere” concept, which I would have thought an obvious label. He also downplays the standoffishness of New Zealand as “prickly." They do, however, have superior intel on the Pacific Island peoples of Polynesia and Melanesia.

Hat tip to Lois McMaster Bujold; if the Five Eyes don't use this logo, they certainly should.
