So the DOJ has indicted Donald Trump for his actions on Jan. 6, 2021. He is not accused of incitement, as you might have imagined. He is accused of believing things and expressing beliefs that have not been proven, and asking others to act on those beliefs.
Law prof Jonathan Turley and former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy did an analysis for Fox News that I found persuasive. They are of the opinion the four charges are based on flimsy legal arguments that, if upheld, would weaken First Amendment rights.
If I understood them, they expect Trump to be convicted in a DC court, which has an overwhelmingly liberal jury pool and a leftist judge. They expect those convictions to be overturned somewhere in the federal appellate court system, perhaps by the Supreme Court.
I have found the analyses of Turley and McCarthy reasonable in past instances. I intend to avoid rehashing the minutia of the case as it progresses.
