I happened to see this Travel + Leisure article about the highest altitude train in Europe. It runs from Bergen to Oslo in Norway.
I particularly enjoyed the article as the other DrC and I have taken that trip. It was an excellent experience. I recommend both the very scenic train trip and the article which describes it.
