A new CNN/SSRS poll released today sure has good news for Nikki Haley and not so good news for Joe Biden. In a series of head to head matches of Biden against the various Republicans seeking their party's nomination, she comes out best.
Only former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley leads the former president outside of the margin of error. In a hypothetical matchup, 49 per cent of respondents said they would back Ms Haley versus 43 per cent who said they would support Mr Biden.
Sisterhood still has a few votes to deliver. Haley is a very qualified candidate but no more so than several of the others. I conclude some otherwise Democrat votes would switch because Haley would be the first woman president.
However, she is less popular with Republicans than Trump. It isn't clear electability - which this poll measures - influences Republican primary voters' choices.
Biden is in an effective tie with the other non-fringe candidates. Trump, DeSantis, Scott, Christie, Pence, and Ramaswamy are either tied with or a point or two above Biden, within the margin of error.
You wouldn't be too far afield if you concluded a generic Republican could defeat Joe Biden. We live in interesting times.
