Water is easy to store, electricity is hard to store. Store water in mountain valley reservoirs and use it to generate electricity as needed. It makes sunshine and wind irrelevant to the power grid.
Incidental benefits: flood control, lake recreation, dry period irrigation. Too much rainwater and snowmelt runs off into the ocean without our using it first.
Why is nobody advocating this obvious solar powered solution? I will keep advocating hydroelectric power until someone convinces me otherwise.
