A writer for Spiked with the rather pretentious name of Bayta Ungar-Sargon looks carefully at the new Trump-supported Republican platform, which I republished here. She reaches a conclusion with which I find myself in surprised agreement.
Stripped of mendacious liberal talking points, this is the platform of a unity candidate. Clearly, Trump is thinking about attracting Democrats as well as Republicans with policies that have wide appeal across the political divide. It is a consensus platform that reflects where the majority of Americans find themselves.
She is correct that most of the 20 points in that platform are issues polling has shown are widely popular, supported by well over half of the voting public. Two left-leaning writers for The Guardian say the platform is “scary” because it could win.
