Monday I wrote the leaves hadn’t begun to turn, yesterday I saw my first aspen that had largely turned that pure, pale gold that characterizes the species when summer ends. More will come in the days and weeks ahead. Autumn is beautiful here, and indeed in many places, but it is also sad as it portends our heading south to winter over in the desert.
Southern Nevada has nice winters but the desert scenery, while dramatic, is a bit austere for my taste. I’ll miss the soft greens of this mountain valley which, of course, will mostly be whites during my absence.
