The second is demand for cardboard boxes, used for shipping and moving.
All of this is happening in the supposed retailing season of plenty. Black Friday got its name because it historically was the day big retailers finally covered their sunk costs and moved "into the black," meaning into profitability.
Maybe not ... this year.
