Bifurcating

Here comes another of Steve Hayward's charts for Power Line. It shows the numbers of Columbia U. faculty in different disciplines who signed one of two opposing letters either supporting or condemning student support of Hamas.


I'm proud to see that Business & Econ. faculty,  which I was for 35 years, overwhelmingly condemned the students' views, as did the folks in STEM. If anything I'm surprised a large minority of Humanities & Soc. Sci. people did also. Hayward observes of this chart:
[It is] more evidence of my thesis that higher education is slowly bifurcating into two separate universities—STEM, and humanities/social science, the latter of which is doomed to wither. 

Some withering is actually a good thing ....
