The Debrief.org reports research using variations in the earth’s magnetic field for navigation, and a proof of concept trial. This can be very important in providing likely jam-proof guidance for cruise missiles and so-called “suicide drones” which are essentially the same thing, only slower.
Pick a spot to which you want to deliver some high explosive, and the robot plane can fly your chosen route there and crash upon it without further guidance from the launch site. Such delivery systems can be shot down but are nearly impossible to jam or spoof, as modifying the earth’s magnetic field is no small feat.
