Instead of firing their plagiarist President Gay, Harvard chose to defend and keep her. Does anybody think she'd have kept her job if she were white? Yeah, me neither.
I don't often quote former President George W. Bush, aka Bush II, but he uttered the defining phrase which characterizes this type of action, calling it:
The soft bigotry of low expectations.
The Internet defines this phrase as "the practice of expecting less from members of a disadvantaged group and thus implicitly encouraging those people not to reach their full potential."
To which I'd add, it also semaphores that society believes the group is, on average, less able and motivated than others.
