The Associated Press reports the man - Michael Forest Reinoehl - who copped to the fatal shooting of a pro-Trump demonstrator in Portland has himself been fatally shot while resisting arrest. It appears to be a case of “suicide by cop” where, in the face of several armed LEOs, he produced a weapon.
Red State reports Reinoehl fired at officers with a rifle. At least four officers fired at him.
LEOs spend several hours a month firing their service weapon. They’re accustomed to it, practiced with it, and at least somewhat accurate. Very few of those who, like Reinoehl, produce a weapon in confrontations with police have anything like this experience and training. It should surprise no one that the armed citizen normally comes off the loser in confrontations with police.
One supposes that Reinoehl preferred death to life in prison, and that is a valid choice. Perhaps he hoped to be a martyr and perhaps he will be so viewed by his Antifa colleagues. For the rest of us, it’s “case closed.
